In 2005, the Minetto United Methodist Church joined the International Prayers & Squares Ministry, becoming Chapter 290.

The Prayers and Squares Ministry is a simple idea with powerful results: A lap quilt is tied, with each knot representing a prayer silently said for the recipient. It is meant to comfort the person both spiritually and physically.

Prayer quilts are for people who are facing illness, surgery, or other challenges. Anyone can request a quilt for a family member, friend, or loved one. You do not have to be a MUMC congregation member to request or receive a prayer quilt.

We have a dedicated team of undercover angels who make our lap quilts in our workshops or on their own. All are welcome to join in the joy and fellowship that come from caring for others.

The Prayer Quilt Ministry has Three Commandments:

  • Make prayer the purpose of your ministry. “It’s not about the quilt; it’s all about the prayers.

  • Before tying a prayer quilt for an individual, that person must accept the gift of prayer in the form of a quilt.

  • Do not accept payment for a prayer quilt. The quilt is a gift of love and prayers, which cannot be bought or sold.
